Dr. Wenfeng (Wendy) Zhao is a registered Clinical Psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. Her area of specialization is adult mental health, and she provides both individual and couples therapy.
Dr. Zhao seeks to help clients deepen their understanding of themselves and the root of their difficulties in order to achieve long-lasting change and personal growth and fulfillment. She helps couples to strengthen their connection, improve communication, and resolve emotional injuries. Her practice is trauma-informed, inclusive and culturally sensitive.
Dr. Zhao’s therapeutic style is warm, compassionate, deeply thoughtful and non-judgemental. She works collaboratively with clients to address a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, eating disorders, self-esteem, perfectionism, existential concerns, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. She integrates evidence-based treatment approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-Informed Treatment, and humanistic traditions in order to personalize treatment to the unique needs of each client.
Dr. Zhao completed both her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology at York University in Toronto. She has been providing therapy services since 2012, and has worked in a variety of settings throughout her career including: Woman’s Inpatient Unit and the Complex Care and Recovery Program at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH), the Adult Eating Disorders Program at North York General Hospital, York University’s Psychology Clinic, as well as in private practice and as a consulting psychologist.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Zhao has authored several academic publications and has presented at psychology conferences throughout Canada and the United States. Her research is on the role of self-compassion in reducing barriers to help-seeking, a topic that regularly informs her clinical practice.
Dr. Zhao continues to engage in regular professional development activities and is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association and the Ontario Psychological Association. Outside of private practice, Dr. Zhao previously held a position as a supervising psychologist for an organization that provides both assessment and treatment services in partnership with Trillium Health Partners and Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). She continues to be strongly committed to the provision of high-quality consultation services for other regulated health professionals and supervision for Psychologists in Supervised Practice with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario.
