Sarah Saperia

Doctoral Associate

(she/her)

Sarah Saperia is a Doctoral Associate at Laksman Doell Psychology, who is completing the final stages of her Ph.D., and will be applying for registration as a Clinical Psychologist in Supervised Practice with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario in the Fall of 2025. Her area of specialization is adult mental health, and she is committed to maintaining the highest standards of care by flexibly and collaboratively tailoring therapy to each client’s unique needs and goals.

Sarah works with individuals who are experiencing a wide range of concerns, including depression and anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder and schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, as well as other personal, interpersonal, and life challenges more broadly. Her approach aims to not only alleviate the weight of emotional distress or illness, but also to cultivate psychological wellness and resilience. She is particularly passionate about working with people who feel “stuck”, and strives to help them face their challenges with confidence and courage, opening the door to growth and fulfillment.

In her clinical work, Sarah brings warmth, humour, empathy, and genuineness to the therapy room. She integrates evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and mindfulness-based approaches. At the same time, she is grounded in client-centred and humanistic traditions, emphasizing authenticity, compassion, non-judgmental acceptance, and the power of a strong therapeutic relationship. She values the balance between deepening clients’ self-understanding and guiding them towards change that feels both meaningful and aligned with their values.

Sarah completed her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology at the University of Toronto. She completed her predoctoral residency at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and has received clinical training in hospital, community, and private practice settings, including Sunnybrook Hospital, North York General Hospital, CAMH, and the University of Toronto Health and Wellness Centre. In addition to her clinical work, Sarah is passionate about continuing her research, which is focused on developing a psychotherapeutic model for conceptualizing, assessing, and treating the negative symptoms of schizophrenia-spectrum disorders.
