Leena Anand is a Doctoral Associate at Laksman Doell, who is currently finishing the final stage of her PhD in Counselling Psychology. She has completed all of the coursework and clinical training associated with her doctoral degree, and will be defending her dissertation prior to proceeding with registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behavior Analysts of Ontario. Leena specializes in working with adult mental health and she strives to create an open and safe space for both individuals and couples to process difficulties, to find connection and meaning, and to become their most authentic selves.
Leena is experienced with providing care for a broad spectrum of concerns impacting the human condition. These include, but are not limited to, anxiety, depression, low mood, stress management, interpersonal difficulties, attachment injuries, relationship distress, trauma, low self-esteem, emotion dysregulation, intrusive thoughts, sexual difficulties, and exploration of gender and sexuality.
Leena’s therapeutic approach seeks to bridge the gap between building insight and engaging in meaningful action. She assists clients in cultivating insights surrounding their concerns and fosters new ways of understanding and navigating these challenges. Her work is primarily client-centered and utilizes evidence-based approaches. The integrative approach she draws upon is rooted in her training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Therapy. She works within a culturally competent and anti-oppressive framework.
Leena completed her Master’s degree at Adler University in Chicago, Illinois and is completing her PhD at McGill University. She completed her predoctoral residency at an APPIC-accredited private practice in Toronto, Ontario. Prior clinical training was completed at Chicago Lakeshore Hospital, The Allan Memorial Institute for Sex and Couple Therapy Services in Montreal, and in private practice in Montreal. Leena has worked in the clinical field since 2012 and has been working in private practice since 2018.
Leena recognizes the importance of science and practice informing one another. Therefore, she remains active and engaged in research. Prior to entering the clinical field, she worked full-time as a research coordinator at the START Clinic for Mood and Anxiety Disorders. Currently, her research centers upon both the intrapersonal and interpersonal effects of mindfulness, and she has presented her research in both national and international settings. Additionally, Leena has held a teaching position at McGill University and is passionate about teaching students and individuals about psychology and mental health.
Leena is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association and continues to engage in regular professional development activities.
