Dr. Samantha Fuss is a registered Clinical and Rehabilitation Psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. Her area of focus is adult mental health, and she provides individual therapy that recognizes the fundamental importance of the therapeutic relationship as the foundation from which to foster empowerment and positive change in the clients with whom she works.
Dr. Fuss is deeply committed to the principles of respect and collaboration, and her approach is deeply rooted in client-centered principles including empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive regard. She is dedicated to collaboratively building a comprehensive and shared understanding of each individual she works with and then building from this conceptualization in order to help individuals tackle the problems that they are living with and to enhance personal growth.
Dr. Fuss has extensive experience working with individuals with a diverse array of presenting problems including trauma-related concerns, challenges related to work, relationship difficulties, mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, perfectionism, adjustment difficulties, coping with chronic pain, and difficulties with initiating, as well as maintaining, behavioural change. She draws from multiple evidence-based clinical approaches and provides integrative treatment that is informed by her training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) in order to address the concerns and to respond directly to the needs of each client.
In addition to her role at Laksman Doell, Dr. Fuss currently holds a position in a mental health program for first responders through Trillium Health and was previously a staff psychologist in the Work, Stress and Health Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Her clinical work at that setting focuses on providing evidence-based assessment and treatment for individuals who have experienced traumatic events through the course of their work, with a primary focus on first responder populations.
Dr. Fuss completed her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology at York University in Toronto. She undertook her pre-doctoral internship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, with rotations in the Women’s Program and Work, Stress, and Health clinic. She has also held positions at Toronto General Hospital in the Eating Disorder Day Hospital Program, as well as at Toronto Western Hospital in a multidisciplinary chronic pain program. Dr. Fuss has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications and presented at both national and international conferences. Her research interests include the psychological factors involved in the development and maintenance of chronic pain. Dr. Fuss continues to engage in regular professional development activities and is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association and Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
