Dr. Faye Doell, C.Psych.
Clinical Psychologist & Clinical Director
(she/her)
Dr. Faye Doell is a Registered Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Director at Laksman Doell Psychology. Dr. Doell believes in the importance of meeting clients where they are, helping them to develop an understanding of their difficulties, and then working together to develop individualized treatment plans that are rooted in evidence-based practice. Her area of specialization is adult mental health, and she provides treatment to individuals who are living with psychosis, mood and anxiety disorders, issues with performance and stress management, interpersonal problems, histories of trauma, and those experiencing difficult life transitions. Dr. Doell also specializes in treating couples who are experiencing relationship distress. She is known for her warm, empathic, and collaborative style, generosity of spirit, intelligence, and sense of humour.
Dr. Doell’s early clinical experiences and training in the area of severe and complex mental health issues has led her to concentrate her focus on adults who are living with longstanding and complex difficulties. Her career has been dedicated to helping individuals who have historically not had access to evidence-based psychotherapy, and to helping individuals who are struggling to make sustained and meaningful changes in their lives. Dr. Doell’s approach to working with couples is informed by her research on communication and relationship satisfaction, and is focused on helping couples to identify problematic patterns in their communication, to reduce conflicts and to enhance their enjoyment of their relationship.
Dr. Doell completed both her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology at York University in Toronto. She has demonstrated expertise in training, program development and implementation of cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp), and she served in a leadership role for the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Psychosis Service at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Canada’s largest mental health and addiction-focused hospital, for over a decade.
Outside of her work at CAMH, Dr. Doell has provided training and consulted on implementation strategies for CBTp in other health care settings, has presented widely on CBTp, has been an invited contributing expert on government-led mental health initiatives related to CBTp, and has been involved in the development of the North American competency standards for CBTp.
Prior to founding Laksman Doell Psychology, Dr. Doell also provided assessment and treatment for adult individuals and couples at two different private practice locations and the York University Psychology Clinic. In addition, Dr. Doell has served as an adjunct faculty member at both York University and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. She continues to provide training and consultation in CBTp to other regulated health professionals, as well as supervision to psychologists during their supervised practice year with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. She has won multiple awards for her teaching and clinical practice, including The Canadian Council of Professional Psychology Programs (CCPPP) Award for Excellence in Professional Training.
Dr. Doell is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, and a member of the Canadian Psychological Association, the Ontario Psychological Association and the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies, and was previously a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. In addition, she is a Founding Member and current Co-Vice President of the North America CBT for Psychosis Network (NACBTpN).
